Successful Capping of Main Steel Structure of Suspension Calcination System for World's First 10-Million-Ton Coal Gangue Comprehensive Utilization Project

At 9:58 on January 28, 2026, the coal gangue comprehensive utilization project with capacity of 10 million tons per year for Hebei Qingfeng Green Energy, undertaken by Chengdu Design & Research Institute of Building Materials Industry Co., Ltd. (Sinoma-CDI) on EPC basis, reached one of its critical milestones — the main frame steel structure of the suspension calcination system at height of 143 meters has been successfully capped. Since the first steel column of Line C was successfully hoisted on June 16, 2025, the project has been progressing steadily. This capping of Line C tower frame demonstrates that the world's first 10-million-ton coal gangue utilization project has officially launched into a new construction phase.

Adopting the advanced suspension calcination technology independently developed by Sinoma-CDI, the project is to convert solid waste coal gangue into silico-aluminous base materials needed by environmentally friendly building materials and other high-value-added products. It effectively addresses the problems of land occupation, carbon emissions and environmental pollution caused by the long-term stockpiling of coal gangue, and has important significance for promoting the reduction, resource utilization and large-scale utilization of industrial solid waste.

As the tallest steel structure tower with the most complex structure in the current industry, this set of suspension calcination system has no mature precedents. Faced with multiple challenges such as limited site conditions in the site area, complex structural forms, intensive high-altitude cross operations and adverse climate conditions, the project team of Sinoma-CDI carefully planned and scientifically organized, always bearing in mind safety and quality as the fundamentals, and finally achieved the capping as scheduled, which has been highly recognized and praised by the client.

In the next step, Sinoma-CDI will continue to adhere to high standards and strict requirements, proceed with subsequent construction tasks, complete the works with high-quality and put the project into operation at the earliest as possible, so as to provide a replicable and promotable model for green and low-carbon development and solid waste resource utilization to China and even the world.
